WeDeserve is a WithRespect primary prevention project seeking to build the knowledge around trans and gender diverse people and their relationships. WeDeserve used a co-production model to elevate the voices of trans and gender diverse communities throughout the project.

WeDeserve aims to improve the current prevention strategies for under-researched trans and gender diverse cohorts and to continue the development of an intersectional understanding for the prevention of family violence.

This project provides a framework for understanding family violence that takes into account the diversity of gender, gender expression, sexuality, the ways people enact their sexuality and sexual orientation. The framework considers the experiences of trans and gender diverse people that includes faith, race, socio-economic status, and abilities.

WeDeserve uses a co-production model in partnership with individual trans and gender diverse people and from relevant sector organisations.
Today’s event aims to gather your thoughts and feedback to further inform the development of family violence prevention initiatives for trans and gender diverse communities. Your input is greatly appreciated.

The WeDeserve Films

WeDeserve used a co-production model to elevate the voices of trans and gender diverse communities throughout the project. These voices have been developed into three short films: It’s Warm Inside, A Normal Day, and Resilience. These short films depict respectful relationships between - and with - trans and gender diverse people.

The Report

Between September 2018 and September 2019, Transgender Victoria (TGV) and drummond street services (ds) were funded by Office of Women to deliver a family violence prev on project for trans and gender diverse (TGD) communities. The project was commissioned by the Victorian government in response to needs identified by the Royal Commission into Family Violence and was established as part of the family violence prevention component within the WithRespect consortia – the LGBTIQ family violence integrated service.
